Wagtail UK were proud to be part of an Illegal Tobacco Roadshow event in Wrexham last week, aimed at gathering intelligence and raising awareness about illegal tobacco.

The Roadshow took place on No Smoking Day in Wrexham town centre, and was held by Ash Wales.  Teams of Trading Standards officers from Wrexham Council were hand to give advice about illegal tobacco and take information from the public.  Officers from the North Wales Fire Service spoke to the public about the fire risks of illegal tobacco and representatives from Public Health Wales and local pharmacies talked to smokers about the best ways to quit.

Wagtail took along sniffer dog Mostyn, and provided demonstrations to show how they sniff out hauls of illegal tobacco.

Members of the public also had the chance to meet Mostyn, a three-year-old cocker spaniel trained in the detection of tobacco and cash.

The event came amidst concerns over criminals selling cheap cigarettes on social media and using sophisticated concealment methods in North Wales.
